Introduction: Bandwidth Management and Firewall (R)Lite for Windows 2000/XP/2003Reserving, limiting and monitoring bandwidth, securing against network attacks.Simply installation on gateway from LAN to internet that can be Windows 2000/XP/2003 configured like router, NAT or bridge, it does not need Qos service.List of main functions and features:Operation speedThe goal of this product is operation speed. It is developed for using on gigabit networks and it is able to filter packets on full speed of fast ethernet and higher. For example it is able to check thousands IP addresses without degrading possible flow of fast ethernet. This is achieved with help of implementing functions in kernel-mode. Windows kernel is able to process tasks with speed comparable with real mode systems. The result of this design is that usable maximum of configuration items is dependent mostly on power of your hardware, and not on number of items in configuration like in many contemporary firewalls.Dynamic reserving of bandwidth By placing Bandwidth Management and Firewall on gateway from LAN to internet you may to reserve bandwidth for some computer or group of computers on your LAN or to reserve bandwidth for some network service. The reservation is dynamic, that is mean if chosen computer does not not use internet then reserved bandwidth is utilized by other computers. If chosen computer begins to transfer some data Bandwidth Management and Firewall reserves bandwidth for that computer and throttles other network traffic. Bandwidth reservation is possible to set by header fields of protocols: Ethernet, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP.Bandwidth limitingBandwidth Management and Firewall allows to limit bandwidth for some computer or group of computers comunicating from or to internet or to limit bandwidth for some network service. In this case computer or service with limited bandwidth can not exceed assigned limit. Bandwidth limitation is possible to set by header fields of protocols: Ethernet, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP.Balancing bandwidth for sending and receivingThis feature allows to chose ratio for sent data and received data. For example in using of internet web services much more data is received than sent and you can set how much assigned bandwidth will be used for sending data and how much for receiving. In opposite case web server placed on your LAN accessible from internet needs to assign more bandwidth for sending data to internet. Useless upload bandwidth assigned to computers accessing internet web services can be "lend" to connections accessing intranet web from outside of LAN and vice versa. FirewallState firewall for most often used protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP, DNS over UDP. Packet filter can work with protocols : Ethernet, IP v4, TCP, UDP, ICMP. DoS attack protection secures against SYN flood or connect flood attack and TCP protocol inspection drops harmful TCP packets. These functions can protect corporate network connected to internet and securely chosen open port on gateway used for access from internet to corporate network. Monitoring transferred data and bandwidth utilizationYou can monitor and log bandwidth utilization for some computer or group of computers or for some network service. Bandwidth Management and Firewall has counters which allows monitoring of current data flow and sum of transferred data. This can be used for efficient using of bandwidth leased from your ISP and for detection of bandwidth lack.Managing bandwidth or securing for single computerBandwidth Management and Firewall can be deployed on stand-alone server where it can provide the same functionality like deployed on the gateway to internet or on the gateway between two LANs. It can be useful for example when some intranet server is overloaded with many clients from network.
